God’s Work

“You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you forever.” (Psalm 30:11-12)

Here in this Psalm we are reminded of what is at the very heart of all true worship — a grateful and glad response to God’s work. God is described as the one who takes the wailing and mourning of grief and turns it into the twirling and giddy dancing of gladness. It’s God who peels off the heavy clothing of loss, emptiness and the bereftness of sin and wraps us up with the inexpressible joy of being his and belonging to his family. Worship is always a response to his work. God’s work carves a pathway for us to be worshippers for all of eternity!
