What ‘marks out’ God’s people?

Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?” Ex 33:15

In Exodus 33,  Moses makes this utterly stunning comment: “what else [other than the very presence of God with them] will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?” In the New Testament,  this reality is amplified when in John 16:7 and in the opening chapters of the book of Acts we see how God’s people are people who have his Holy Spirit dwelling with and in them. The advantage they have (John 16:7) and the power they need (Acts 1:8) is all found in being people saturated in the very presence of the Spirit.

So what should distinguish or mark out God’s people today? There are probably a whole host of answers,  but one clear and definite answer is we have been called to be people who are living Holy Spirit empowered lives.
