The paradoxical message of the cross

”For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18)

The Apostle Paul joins together words that should never really be joined together: cross and power. This is absurd! The apostle Paul is saying that a place that was designed to forcefully take away the life of it’s victim is God’s place to give life to the undeserving and guilty. The place of brutal death has now become the place of certain life. The place of abject weakness has become the place of unending power. The place of forceful captivity and restraint has become the place of glorious liberation and salvation. This cross message is paradoxical yet glorious essential!
